Sydney in 5 days

Alright, let’s back track a little. Quite a few of you were told I will be backpacking Britain so before questions are asked why my flight’s headed in the opposite direction, I better offer the story. The initial plan was to tour Britain, passing through London, Oxford and Manchester, living frugally given the goodwill of ex tutees and army mates based there. Tickets were bought way before my central Thailand run, but when the rental company revealed exorbitant insurance prices not listed on the website for foreigners and a (super-turnoff) 100km/day limit, the plan switched to backpacking; i lost interest. It isn’t the same if there isn’t a ride. Last week, a friend spontaneously contacted me from Australia; this led one thing to another and when it was mentioned a possible road trip might be worked out, it was a done deal. With 5 days to departure I switched London for Sydney today. I’m not sure whether it will be a car or bike trip, or both, given the winter in the southern hemisphere. We’ll see how this one pans out. I'll be off on the plan of no plan this Saturday.
